STEERING AND FRONT AXLE
FRONT AXLE
Hub aid Bearing Installation
Partially fill the hub cavity of the steering knuckle
with c h a s s i s lubricant and install the hub
assembly.
Tighten the hub bolts to 101 N-m (75 ft-lbs)
torque.
Install the hub washer and nut (4) and tighten
the hub nut to 237 N-m (175 ft-lbs) torque. In-
stall the nut lock and replacement cotter pins.
Install the rotor, caliper and wheel.
Lower the vehicle.
FRONT AXLE SHAFT REMOVAL
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the wheel, caliper and rotor.
Remove the cotter pin, nut lock and axle hub nut.
Remove the hub-to-knuckle attaching bolts.
Remove the hub assembly and splash shield
rom the steering knuckle.
temove the left side axle shaft.
)isconnect the vacuum harness from the shift
lotor.
temove the shift motor housing (A) and shift
lotor (B) from the axle.
temove the right-side axle shaft.

FRONT AXLE SHAFT INSTALLATION
Install the right-side axle shaft. Be sure the shift
collar is in position on the intermediate shaft and
the axle shaft is fully engaged with the
intermediate shaft.
Install the shift motor (B) and housing (A) on the
axle. Be sure the shift fork is engaged with the
collar.
Partially fill the hub cavity of the steering knuckle
with c h a s s i s g r e a s e and install the hub
assembly and splash shield.
Tighten the hub bolts to 101 N-m (75 ft-lbs)
torque.
Install the hub washer and nut. Tighten the hub
nut lock and install a replacement cotter pin.
Install the rotor, caliper and wheel.
Lower the vehicle.
