OVERHAUL
TRANSFER CASE DISASSEMBLY
R e m o v e the fill and drain plugs.
R e m o v e the front yoke (3). Discard the yoke
s e a l (2) and nut (1).
Move the transfer c a s e range lever (72) all the
way forward to the four-wheel low position.
R e m o v e the extension housing attaching bolts.
T a p the extension housing (62) in a clockwise
direction with a rawhide mallet to break the
sealer bead. T h e n remove the housing.
C A U T I O N : T o avoid damaging the sealing
s u r f a c e s of the extension housing and rear
retainer, do not attempt to pry or wedge the
housing off the retainer.

R e m o v e the rear bearing s n a p ring (59) from the
mainshaft. Discard the s n a p ring.
R e m o v e the rear retainer attaching bolts.
T a p the rear retainer (60) in a c l o c k w i s e
direction with a rawhide mallet to break the
sealer bead.
C A U T I O N : T o avoid d a m a g i n g the s e a l i n g
surfaces of the rear retainer and rear c a s e , do
not attempt to pry or wedge the retainer from the
c a s e .
