GENERAL INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION
Throttle Body Fuel Injection (TBI) S y s t e m is a
single-point injection system that injects fuel into
the throttle body from above the throttle plate.
T h e injector, located within the throttle body, is
controlled by the electronic control unit ( E C U ) .
T h e E C U is a s e a l e d m i c r o p r o c e s s o r that
receives inputs from several s e n s o r s and other
engine associated equipment.
T h e inputs represent the engine's instanta-
neous operating conditions.
B a s e d on the inputs, the E C U generates outputs
that c h a n g e the air/fuel mixture ratio and ignition
timing a s n e c e s s a r y to o p t i m i z e the per-
formance of the engine.
T h e E C U also h a s controlling functions involving
fuel delivery, idle s p e e d , emission control, the
up-shift indicator lamp (manual transmission)
and the A / C compressor clutch.
