DRIVELINE VIBRATION
Driveline vibration can be caused by damage to
the propeller shaft, universal joints or the axle
and transfer case yokes.
Propeller Shaft
Inspect the shaft for dents, missing balance
weights, cracked weld seams or yokes, un-
dercoating on the shaft tube and excessive
runout.
Universal Joints
Inspect the joints for loose clamp bolts, worn
bearings, damaged bearing cap retainers, or
damaged clamps.
Axle and Transfer Case Yokes
Inspect the yokes for damaged bearing cap
bores. Check the pinion yoke for excessive ru-
nout or or a loose pinion nut. Check the slip
yoke splines and seal surface for damage.
NOTE: Driveline vibration may also be the result
of loose or damaged engine mounts or engine
operated accessories. In addition, loose or
damaged crossmembers, support cushions or
driveline mounting bolts/nuts can also contrib-
ute to vibration.
