CYLINDER BLOCK
ASSEMBLY
Count the number of chain pins between the
timing marks of both sprockets. T h e r e must be
15 pins (B).

TIMING CASE COVER INSTALLATION
Install the oil slinger.
I n s t a l l t h e timing c a s e c o v e r a n d g a s k e t .
U s e Timing C a s e C o v e r Alignment a n d S e a l
Installer Tool J - 2 2 2 4 8 (A), or equivalent, for
c o v e r alignment.

Tighten the cover bolts to 7 N-m (5 ft-lbs) torque,
a n d t h e oil p a n - t o - c o v e r bolts to 13 N-m
(11 ft-lbs) torque.
Apply Perfect S e a l , or equivalent, to the outside
diameter of the timing cover s e a l .
Install the s e a l into position.
N O T E : T h e s e a l c a n be installed by gently
tapping on Timing C a s e C o v e r Alignment and
S e a l Installer Tool J - 2 2 2 4 8 (A), or equivalent,
with a plastic or rubber mallet until the tool
c o m e s into contact with the cover.
Apply a light film of engine oil to the s e a l lip on
the inside diameter of the timing cover s e a l .
