GENERAL SERVICE INFORMATION
This section covers removal, installation and lu-
brication procedures for model AX-5 and BA
10/5 manual transmissions.
The procedures, specifications and special
tools needed to overhaul the Model 207 trans-
fer case are contained in the B.V. AX-4/5 and
B.V. BA 10/5 Component Service Manuals
respectively.
Transmission Identification
AX-5 Identification
The eight digit AX-5 identification code (1) is
stamped on the bottom surface of the transmis-
sion case next to the intermediate plate. The
first number is year of manufacture (e.g. 5 =
1985, 6 = 1986). The second and third numbers
indicate month of manufacture (e.g. 01 = Janu-
ary, 02 = February, etc.). The next series of
numbers is the transmission serial number.

BA 10/5 Identification
The BA 10/5 identification plate (A) is attached
to the passenger side of the transmission front
case. The Jeep identification/part number is on
the top line of the plate. The manufacturers
reference number is on the middle line and the
transmission serial number is on the lower line.
