OVERHAUL
P r e s s the rear bearing (10) three-quarters of the
way off the mainshaft (20) with an arbor press
and tool B.V.I. F M . 07. Do not press the bearing
completely off the mainshaft at this time.

Mark the first-second synchronizer (16) and hub
(17) for a s s e m b l y reference.
T a p the rear bearing (10) off the mainshaft (20)
with a rawhide mallet. T h e n remove: shim (11);
s p a c e r (12); first gear (15); first gear needle
bearing (13); bearing s p a c e r (14); first-second
s y n c h r o n i z e r ( 1 6 ) ; s y n c h r o n i z e r hub (17);
s e c o n d gear (19) and s e c o n d gear bearing (18).
N O T E : Mark or note position of the synchronizer
lugs (a) for a s s e m b l y reference.

R e m o v e the first-second lock ball and spring
(57).
Move the third-fourth shift fork (68) and rail (70)
all the way forward into fourth gear position.
R e m o v e the roll pins (65 and 67) that s e c u r e the
shift forks to the rails.
Slide the third-fourth shift rail (70) b a c k to
Neutral position.
