TRANSMISSION
8N-VEHICLE SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENT

Install the oil pan and replacement pan gasket.
Tighten the oil pan bolts to 17 U*m (150 in-lbs)
torque.
NOTE: Do not use any sealer on the oil pan
gasket.
Lower the vehicle.
Fill the transmission with J E E P automatic trans-
mission fluid or an equivalent D e x r o n ® II fluid.
OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the oil pan and drain the fluid. Inspect
condition of the fluid while it is draining.
Remove the oil filter attaching screws (A) and
remove the filter (B).

Clean the old gasket material from the trans-
mission oil pan surface.
Install the replacement filter. Tighten the filter
screws to 4 N»m (35 in-lbs) torque.
Install the oil pan and replacement pan gasket.
Tighten the pan bolts to 17 N«m (150 in-lbs)
torque.
NOTE: Do not use any sealer on the oil pan
gasket.
Lower the vehicle.
Fill the transmission with J E E P automatic trans-
mission fluid or an equivalent D e x r o n ® II fluid.
Inspect the oil pan and filter for friction material
or metal particles. Alight accumulation of this
material is normal. However, a heavy accumula-
tion indicates that component damage may
have occured.
