STEERING COLUMN SERVICE
Install the wiper switch (25) in the housing (22)
and install the pivot screw (24).
Coat the wave washer (26) with chassis grease
and install the washer on the post and over the
release lever (27). Use enough grease to hold
the washer in position.
Install the dimmer switch actuating rod (23)
through the pivot screw (24).
Engage the short, hooked-end of the ignition
switch actuator rod (29) in the lock rack (30).
Align and install the shroud (21) on the housing
(22) and install the shroud-to-housing attaching
screws (20).
NOTE: Do not displace the wave washer when
installing the shroud on the housing.

Tape the dimmer switch actuator rod (23) to the
shroud (21) to prevent the rod from disengaging.
Feed the wiper switch harness through the
column. Keep the wires flat. Do not allow them to
bend or kink.
Install the assembled shroud and housing (19)
on the column jacket and tighten the attaching
screws (18) to 4 N-m (35 in-lbs) torque.
Retract the lock cylinder actuator before
installation as follows: Insert the ignition key into
the cylinder (14). Hold the cylinder sleeve from
turning and rotate the key clockwise until it
stops; This retracts the cylinder actuator.
Install the lock cylinder (14) as follows:
• Align the lock cylinder tab with the housing
K e y w a y .
• Push the cylinder into the housing (15) until it
bottoms.
• Install and tighten the retaining screw (13) to 5
N-m (40 in-lbs) torque.
