CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER OVERHAUL
Cylinder Disassembly and Cleaning
Remove the reservoir cap (6).
Remove the cylinder dust boot (2).
Remove the push rod snap ring (3).
Remove the push rod (1) and washer (4).
Remove the plunger (17), spring (13) and the
valve stem assembly (A). Lightly tap the cylinder
on a wood block to dislodge the valve stem
assembly.
Compress the valve spring (13) slightly. Pry the
tab (B) of retainer (14) upward with a small
screwdriver to release the valve stem (10).
Remove the retainer (14), spring (13), and valve
stem assembly (A) from the plunger (17).

Remove the seals (15-16) from the plunger (17).
Discard the seals.
Remove the spring retainer (12) and spring (11)
from the valve stem (10).
Remove the stem tip seal (9) from the valve
stem (10). Discard the seal.
Clean all parts thoroughly with fresh brake fluid
or brake system cleaner only.
Cylinder Inspection and Assembly
Inspect the cylinder bore for cracks, pitting,
corrosion, wear or scoring. Replace the cylin-
der if the bore exhibits any of these conditions.
Inspect the plunger, valve stem retainers,
springs, push rod and snap ring. Replace any of
these components if worn or damaged.
Lubricate the cylinder bore with clean brake
fluid.
Install a replacement seal (9) on the valve stem
(10). Be sure the seal shoulder fits in the stem
tip undercut.
Install replacement seals (15-16) on the plunger
(17). Be sure the seal lips face the valve stem
end of the plunger.
Install the spring (11) and retainer (12) on the
valve stem.
Seat the plunger spring (13) on the retainer (12).
Install the plunger retainer (14) in the spring (13)
if removed.
Insert the plunger (17) in the retainer (14).
