5. Turn the screw until the shift lever is in locked
position on the stub stjaft. T h e four dimples
on the inside of the shift lever must seat in the
groove near the top of the stub shaft. T h e
screw on the tool will become noticeably
easier to turn when the dimples seat into the
lock groove. Do not install the shift lever too
far down on the stub shaft. There should be
approximately 6.35 mm (

A inch) of stub shaft
e x p o s e d when the shift lever is properly
installed.
6. Remove tool J-36044 and install the outer
shift lever boot.
NOTE: In s o m e c a s e s it may be n e c e s s a r y to
file (dress) the four e d g e s at the top of the stub
shaft to e a s e installation.
