CLUTCH
CLUTCH SERVICE
Install the cylinder and bearing assembly on the
transmission input shaft (8).
Guide the slave cylinder inlet and bleed lines (2-
3) through the opening in the clutch housing.
Position the cylinder mounting boss (10) over
the mounting pin (11) and seat the assembly
against the transmission front case.

Secure the cylinder and bearing assembly to
the mounting pin (10) with retaining nut (6).
Install the insulator bracket (4) and insulator (5).
Install the transmission and transfer case as
outlined in Chapter E.
Connect the master cylinder line (7) to the slave
cylinder inlet line (3).
Fill and bleed the clutch hydraulic system as
outlined in this section.
CLUTCH HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FLUID
The only fluid recommended for use in the
clutch hydraulic system is Jeep brake fluid, or
equivalent labeled S A E 1703 or DOT 3. Use
recommended fluids only. Never use previously
drained fluid or fluid that has been stored in an
open container.
CLUTCH HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BLEEDING
Fill the master cylinder with the specified brake
fluid.
Raise the vehicle.
Attach one end of a bleed hose to the bleed
screw (12) on the slave cylinder bleed line (2).
Insert the other end of the bleed hose in a glass
container partially filled with brake fluid. Be sure
the hose end is completely submerged in the
brake fluid.
