elements, the slipping clutch can be deter-
mined. For example, if slippage also occurs in
reverse, the front clutch is slipping. If the trans-
mission does not slip in reverse, the rear clutch
is slipping.
NOTE: Although road test analysis will identify
the slipping element, the actual cause of a mal-
function usually cannot be determined until hy-
draulic and air pressure tests are performed.
Do not disassemble the transmission until hy-
draulic and air pressure tests have been
performed.
HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST
The hydraulic pressure test is performed with
Test Set J 24027. The set consists of five color-
coded pressure hoses, a 2 758 kPa (400 psi)
capacity high pressure gauge and a 689 kPa
(100 psi) capacity low pressure gauge.
The high pressure gauge is used to record rear
servo pressure in R and 1 positions only. The
low pressure gauge is used for all other
readings.
The test set permits simultaneous connection
to all the pressure ports for sequential or in-
dependent pressure readings.
Pressure Test Port Location/Connection
The accumulator line pressure port (1) is on the
right side of the case between the front and rear
servo castings. Connect the blue hose (A) to
this port.
The governor pressure port (2) is in the lower
center section of the adapter housing. Connect
the black hose (B) to this port.
Lubrication pressure is measured by installing a
T-fitting in the fluid cooler return line. The line is
attached to the fitting (3) on the left rear edge of
the case. Connect the white hose (C) to the
cooler line.
The front servo release pressure port (4) is on
the right side of the case just behind the filler
tube opening. Connect the yellow hose (D) to
this port.
The rear servo apply pressure port (5) is on the
right side of the case just above the oil pan.
Connect the red hose (E) here.
