Mark the rear propeller shaft and axle yoke for
assembly alignment reference.
Disconnect the rear propeller shaft.
Rotate the pinion gear several revolutions.
Measure the amount of torque (in inch-pounds)
required to rotate the pinion gear. Use inch-
pound torque wrench J 5853-B to measure the
torque. Record the torque reading for assembly
reference.
Remove the pinion nut with a socket (A) and
yoke holding tool J 8614-01. Discard the pinion
nut. It is not reusable.

Mark position of the yoke and pinion for assem-
bly alignment reference.
Remove the yoke with holder tool J 8614-01,
and remover tools J 8614-02 and -03.

Remove the pinion seal with tool J 9233.

Coat the replacement seal lip with axle
lubricant.
Install the replacement seal with tool J 22661.
