GENERAL INFORMATION
DESCRIPTION
T h e Model 207 is a part-time transfer c a s e with a
built-in low range reduction gear system. It h a s
three operating ranges plus a Neutral position.
T h e low range system provides a 2.6:1 gear
reduction ratio for increased low s p e e d torque
capability.
OPERATING RANGES
T h e Model 2 0 7 h a s three operating ranges
which are: Two-wheel drive high, four-wheel
drive high and four-wheel drive low. T h e four-
w h e e l d r i v e o p e r a t i n g r a n g e s a r e
undifferentiated.
T w o - w h e e l drive range is u s e d for on-road,
highway operation. T h e four-wheel drive ranges
are for off-road operation or when the vehicle is
driven on paved road surfaces covered by snow,
ice or similar low traction elements.
SHIFT MECHANISM
Transfer c a s e operating ranges are selected
with a floor mounted shift lever. T h e shift lever is
connected to the transfer c a s e range lever by an
adjustable linkage rod. A straight line shift
pattern is used. R a n g e positions are marked on
the gearshift lever knob (A).

TWO-WHEEL DRIVE OPERATION
Two-wheel drive operation is provided by a
d i s c o n n e c t m e c h a n i s m in the front axle. A
v a c u u m o p e r a t e d shift motor on the a x l e
disconnects the right or left axle shaft when
two-wheel drive range is selected. T h e axle shift
motor is controlled by a v a c u u m switch that is
actuated by the transfer c a s e shift sector and
linkage.

A synchronizer assembly in the transfer c a s e
allows the unit to be shifted between the two-
and four-wheel high ranges while the vehicle is
in motion.
