Waive Disassembly and Cleaning
Remove the large snap ring (9) from the weight
end of the governor body (4).

Remove the weight assembly (5-6-7).
Remove the small cap ring (8) that retains the
spring (6) and inner weight (7) in the outer
weight (5). Remove the spring and filter screen
(11).
Thoroughly clean each of the governor parts in
solvent. Use compressed air only to dry the
parts.
NOTE: Do not use shop towels to dry the gov-
ernor parts. Small quantities of lint from the
towels could cause the valve and weights to
stick after installation.
Governor Valve Inspection and Assembly
Trial-fit the valve (2), valve shaft (3) and weights
in the governor body. The valve and weights
should slide freely when clean and dry. Small
burrs or scratches in the body, or on the valve,
shaft or weights may be polished-out with cro-
cus cloth.
Inspect the weight spring (6), E-clips (1) and
(10) and snap rings (8) and (9). Replace any
component if distorted, collapsed or broken.
Clean the governor filter (11) in solvent and dry
it with compressed air. Replace the filter if
damaged.
Check torque of the bolts that attach the output
shaft rear support (F) to the transmission case
(the governor body and park gear are attached
to the support). If the bolts are loose, cross
leakage and loss of governor pressure can
occur.
Inspect the park gear (E). Replace the matic
transmission fluid.
Install the spring (6) and inner weight (7) t with
snap ring (8).
Install the assembled spring and weights in the
governor body. Secure the assembly in the
body with snap ring (9).
Install the filter screen (9).
Governor Valve and Park Gear Installation
Install the park gear on the output shaft.
Install the governor body (D) on the output shaft
(A) and against the park gear (E).
Align the shaft bore in the governor body with
the shaft bore in the output shaft.
