Service and Adjustment Information
Pinion gear depth must be measured and ad-

le housing. Depth is controlled by a shim (14)
installed between the pinion rear bearing cup
(13) and the axle housing (A).

The ring gear (10) and pinion gear (11) are ser-
viced as a matched set only. They are identified
as a matched set by numbers etched on the
ring and pinion gears.
The first two numbers (A) on each gear identify
them as a matched set. The second number (B)
on the pinion gear is the pinion depth variance.
It indicates the amount (in thousandths of an
inch) that the set varied from the standard set-
ting of 2.095 inches (53.21 mm). The variance
may be a plus or minus figure.
