GOVERNOR VALVE AND PARK GEAR SERVICE
The transfer case and transmission adapter
must be removed for access to the governor
valve and park gear. Park gear and governor
valve removal, disassembly, cleaning and in-
stallation are outlined in this section.
Governor Valve and Park Gear Removal
Raise the vehicle.
Mark the propeller shaft yokes for assembly
alignment reference.
Disconnect the front and rear propeller shafts
at the transfer case.
Disconnect the speedometer cable at the trans-
fer case.
Position a support stand under the transmis-
sion converter housing.
Remove the rear crossmember.
Support the transfer case with a transmission
jack.
Remove the bolts attaching the transfer case to
the transmission adapter housing and remove
the transfer case.
Remove the bolts attaching the adapter housing
to the transmission and remove the adapter
housing.
Rotate the transmission output shaft (A) until
the governor valve faces downward.
Remove an E-clip (B) from one end of the gov-
ernor valve shaft.
Slide the governor valve shaft out of the gover-
nor body (C) and output shaft (A).
Remove the snap ring (D) that holds the gover-
nor body and park gear (E) on the output shaft
(A).
Remove the bolts (G) that attach the governor
body and park gear to the output shaft rear
support (F).
NOTE: On some models, the bolts (G) may be
secured with lock straps. If so, bend the strap
tabs away from the bolt heads before loosening
the bolts. Then remove the tabs along with the
bolts.
Remove the governor body (D) from the output
shaft (A) and park gear (E).
Remove the park gear (E) from the output shaft
(A).
