petroleum jelly. Lubricate all
other parts with power steering fluid.
Steering Gear Adjustment:
Worm Bearing Preload . . . . 0.5-1 N-m (4 to 10 in-lbs)
drag torque. Refer to
Steering Gear Adjustment.
Pitman Shaft Overcenter Drag Torque:
New Gear (less than 400 miles) 0.5-1 N-m
(4 to 8 in-lbs) in addition
to worm bearing preload
but not to exceed combined
total of 2 N-m (18 in-lbs)
Used Gear (over 400 miles) . . .0.5 N-m (4 to 5 in-lbs)
in addition to worm bearing
preload but not to exceed
combined total of
2 N-m (18 in-lbs)

Steering Gear Adjustment. Failure to adhere to
the recommended procedures may result in
