Do not permit the arbor tool to separate from the
wormshaft until the rack piston is fully installed
on the wormshaft.

Major Component Installation
Mount the gear housing (11) in a vise with the
pitman shaft bore facing downward (3). Clamp
the vise jaws on the unmachined housing boss
only.
Install the wormshaft lower thrust bearing (26)
and bearing races (25-27). Install the first
bearing race followed by the thrust bearing and
second bearing race.

Align the notch in the valve body (23) with the
locating pin (H) on the wormshaft and insert the
valve body assembly into the gear housing.
Seat the valve body assembly in the housing by
pushing it into place with two fingers. Be sure to
press only against the valve body.
CAUTION: Do not press against the stub shaft
to seat the valve body. This could cause the stub
shaft cap to separate from the valve body
allowing the spool valve damper O-ring to slip
into the valve body fluid grooves. Seat the valve
body only by pushing on the outer diameter of
the valve body itself using the fingertips.
NOTE: Both of the conical bearing races must
be installed so that the top of each cone faces
the bottom of the gear housing.
