STEERING AND FRONT AXLE
FRONT AXLE
FRONT AXLE INSTALLATION
Position the axle assembly (G) on a floor jack
and roll the axle into position.
Raise and align the springs with the shackles
and install the shackle bolts and nuts. Do not
tighten the bolts at this time.
Lower the jack and position the axle on the front
springs. Be sure the spring center bolts are
aligned with the axle mounting pads.
Install the U-bolts and tie plates (F). Tighten the
U-bolt nuts to 122 N*m (90 ft-lbs) torque.
Connect the following:
• track bar
• steering damper
• shock absorbers
• stabilizer bar links
• center link
• front propeller shaft
Connect the axle vent hose and the axle shift
motor vacuum harness (A).
Install the rotors, pads and calipers and the
wheels.
Remove the supports and floor jack.
Lower the vehicle.
Tighten the front spring shackle and frame
bracket bolts to specified torque.
Check front wheel alignment.
Adjust the turn angle stop screws to obtain
required turn angle.
PINION SEAL AND YOKE REPLACEMENT
Yoke and Seal Removal
Raise the vehicle.
Mark the propeller shaft and axle yoke for
alignment reference and disconnect the
propeller shaft.
Remove the pinion nut and washer with a socket
and ratchet (1). Use tool J 8614-01 to hold the
yoke while loosening the nut.
