HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
The normal quantity of oil required for the com-
pressor and entire system is 175 cc (6 oz. ± 0 . 5
oz.).
CAUTION: Do not overfill the compressor. Ex-
cessive amounts of oil in the system will hinder
compressor operation and reduce cooling
efficiency.
Two oil level checking procedures are necessa-
ry. Use procedure A when the compressor is
being replaced and the system was discharged
properly (no oil loss). Ude procedure B for rou-
tine maintenance or when checking oil level af-
ter replacing a system component.
NOTE: In cases where rapid loss of refrigerant
and oil occured, the system must be evacuated
and purged and the compressor refilled with the
necessary amount of oil for the entire system.

Check-Procedure A
m Remove the oil filler plug (1) from the original
and replacement compressors.
Drain the oil from the replacement compres-
sor into a clean container.
Drain the oil from the original compressor
into a measuring cup or graduated beaker.
Note the amount of oil drained.
Refill the replacement compressor with the
same amount of oil drained from the original
compressor plus one additional fluid ounce.
For example, if the old compressor con-
tained 3.5 ounces of oil, fill the replacement
compressor with a total of 4.5 ounces of oH.
Oil Level Check-Procedure B
Start the and operate the engine at idle
speed.
• Operate the air conditioning system for 10
minutes to return the maximum amount of oil
in the system to the compressor.
Stop the engine and disconnect the magnetic
clutch feed wire.
Front-seat the discharge and suction service
valves.
Loosen the compressor oil filler plug (1) just
enough to release internal pressure. Remove
the plug after slowly bleeding off all
pressure.
Look through the oil filler plug hole (A), and
rotate the clutch front plate to position the
piston connecting rod in the center of the oil
filler plug hole.
