HYDRAULIC VALVE TAPPET DISASSEMBLY
N O T E : B e sure to place the components of e a c h
valve tappet in a s e p a r a t e location. This will
greatly assist in the installation operation.
R e l e a s e the s n a p ring (A).

R e m o v e the following components from the
tappet body (B):
• Plunger c a p ( C )
• Metering valve (D)
• Plunger (E)
• C h e c k valve a s s e m b l y (F)
• Plunger return spring (G)
CLEANING AND INSPECTION
C l e a n the components of e a c h tappet a s s e m b l y
in cleaning solvent to remove all varnish, gum
and sludge deposits.
Inspect for indications of scuffing on the side and
b a s e of e a c h tappet body.
Inspect e a c h tappet b a s e for c o n c a v e wear with
a straightedge positioned a c r o s s the b a s e .
If the b a s e is c o n c a v e , the corresponding lobe
on the c a m s h a f t is a l s o worn. R e p l a c e the
camshaft and tappets.
