AIR PRESSURE TEST
Air pressure testing checks clutch, band and
servo operation before and after repair. The
test involves substituting air pressure for fluid
pressure to operate the clutches and bands.
The valve body must be removed for this test.
NOTE: Use dry, filtered compressed air only to
perform air pressure tests. Pressures of 207 to
689 kPa (30 to 100 psi) are required to perform
the tests.

Rear Clutch Test
Place one or two fingers on the clutch housing
and apply air pressure to the rear clutch apply
passage (2). Movement of the piston may be
felt and a soft thud may be heard as the clutch
applies. Check for excessive air leakage while
pressure is applied.
Front Servo Test
Apply air pressure to the front seivo apply pas-
sage (3). The servo rod should extend and ap-
ply the front band. Check for excessive air leak-
age while pressure is applied. Spring tension
should release the servo when air pressure is
removed.
Front Clutch Test
Place one or two fingers on the front clutch
retainer and apply air pressure to the front
clutch apply passage (1). Movement of the pis-
ton can be felt and a soft thud may be heard as
the clutch applies. Check for excessive air leak-
age while pressure is applied.
