COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS (Cont'd)
C O N D I T I O N
P O S S I B L E C A U S E C O R R E C T I O N
FUEL PUMP WILL NOT
OPERATE WHEN THE
STARTER MOTOR IS
ENGAGED.
Fuel pump defective.
Open circuit.
Replace the fuel pump.
Connect positive battery voltage to
the pump contact on the starter
motor relay.
If the pump operates, repair or
replace the starter motor relay.
If the pump does not operate, repair
the wire harness between the starter
motor relay and the pump side of the
ballast resistor.
Check to determine if the pump
operates one second with the
ignition switch on.
ISA (IDLE SPEED
ACTUATOR) MOTOR DOES
NOT EXTEND ON ENGINE
SHUTDOWN. (SYMPTOM:
SLOW, UNSATISFACTORY
IDLE AFTER COLD START.)
ECU, wire harness, or motor. Connect a test bulb between D2 Pin
14 and D2 Pin 11 with the engine
operating. Shut the engine off.
If the bulb does not light momentarily
on shutdown: test the ECU with MS
1700 tester.
If the bulb lights at shutdown: test the
wire harness and connector at the
ISA motor. Repair as necessary.
Test to determine if the motor is
jammed in the full retract position.
Refer to ISA Motor Diagnostic Test
using ISA motor exerciser tool Ele.
