MANUAL STEERING GEAR REMOVAL
Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from
the gear.
Raise and support the vehicle.
Disconnect the center link from the pitman arm.
Remove the front stabilizer bar.
Remove the pitman arm nut.
Mark the pitman arm and shaft for installation
reference and remove the pitman arm with tool
J 6632-01.
Remove the steering gear mounting bolts and
remove the gear.
MANUAL STEERING GEAR INSTALLATION
Position the steering gear on the frame and
install the gear mounting bolts.
Align and install the pitman arm on the pitman
shaft.
Install and tighten the pitman nut.
Stake the pitman nut to the shaft in two places.
CAUTION: The pitman nut must be securely
staked to the pitman shaft for proper retention.
Connect the center link to the pitman arm.
Install the front stabilizer bar.
Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the
steering gear.
