Emergency Access to the Attendant

Even with automatic emergency return call forwarding, it's still wise to pick the Emergency Location
Extensions administered in the ip-network-map form as follows:
On Media Gateways having incoming PSTN trunks.
On the same Media Gateway as the telephones that they cover for, assuming that Media Gateway
has incoming PSTN trunks.
Network Address Translation (NAT) devices
If a telephone is behind a Network Address Translation (NAT) device, the ELIN is based on the
telephone's translated IP address, and not the native IP address. If the customer is using a NAT device, the
NAT devices will have to preserve IP subnets. The 911 ELIN for IP wired extensions feature expects a
move from one geographic area to another to require a change in IP addresses.
For example, suppose a customer had 2 subnets, 1.1.1.* and 2.2.2.*, mapped to two different ELINs in
the ip-network-map form, and both of these are sitting behind a NAT device as follows:
System------------NAT------------IP network
If the NAT device mapped both of 1.1.1.* and 2.2.2.* into addresses in the range 3.3.3.*, Communication
Manager would never detect a move of a telephone from 1.1.1.* to 2.2.2.*.
Non-ARS calls
This feature relies on ARS digit analysis to classify the call as an emergency or crisis alert call. If a user
dials a 911 call without using ARS — for example, using a trunk access code, personal CO line button,
facility test call, or AAR access code if AAR digit analysis does not overflow to ARS — this feature does
not apply.
Emergency Access to the Attendant
Emergency Access to the Attendant alerts an attendant if a telephone remains off-hook for more than the
administered period of time. It also enables a user to place an emergency call to an attendant.
Detailed description
Emergency calls can be placed automatically by the system or dialed by system users. Such calls can
receive priority handling by the attendant.
Place emergency calls to the attendant in the following ways:
Automatically by the system
Assign a telephone the Off-Hook Alert option via COS. If the terminal is left off-hook until
intercept timeout, the (administrable) off-hook alerting timer starts. If the terminal is still off-hook
when the timer expires, an emergency call is automatically placed to the attendant.
Dial access by a system user
A user can place an emergency call to the attendant by dialing the Emergency Access to the
Attendant feature-access code.
