Problem
Symptom: Ragged or uneven cutting of crop
Knife hold-downs not adjusted
properly
Knife sections or guards are worn or
broken
Knife is not operating at
recommended speed
Ground speed too fast for reel speed
Reel fingers not lifting crop properly
ahead of knife
Cutterbar too high
Header angle too flat
Bent knife causing binding of cutting
parts
Cutting edge of guards not close
enough or parallel to knife sections
Tangled/tough-to-cut crop
Reel too far back
Loose knife drive belt

TROUBLESHOOTING
Solution
Adjust hold-downs
Replace all worn and broken cutting
parts
Check engine speed of combine
Reduce ground speed or increase
reel speed
Adjust reel position/finger pitch
Lower cutting height
Steepen header angle
Straighten bent knife and align
guards
Align guards
Install stub guards
Move reel forward
Adjust drive belt tension
