Adjustment of the d oor lock and s trik e r plate should
be made after the door hinges have been assem bled to
the doors, i f rem oved, positioned in the door opening.
Replacement
See door lock and regu lator assem bly (rem ote control),
in this sam e section fo r the door lock. R em ove and r e ­
place fou r bolts fo r
replacin g the s trik e r plate at the
d oor lock p illa r and adjust as requ ired below.

DOOR CHECK
The door check is part of the fron t door upper hinge on
a ll but Step Van, Chevy Van and T ilt Cab m odels. The
new front door check hinge com bination allow s a frictio n

load to hold the door in any position between fu ll open and
closed. The front door check-hinge assem bly is replaced

Removal
1. R em ove windshield w ip er blade assem blies.
ROTOR COVER
2. R em ove cow l vent g r ille screw s and lift off g r ille .
3. Loosen front fender re a r bolts.

Installation
1. Install hinge snugly on p illa r in sam e location as

the ro to r co ve r outer fa ce on the door swings into the
s trik e r assem bly with .10 clearan ce to the lock ro to r
cover.
Use special bu rred shim s as requ ired (fig.
37).
NOTE:
Under usual conditions, shim s are not
required.
v e r tic a lly position the s trik e r so that the lock ro to r
and ro to r co v e r assem bly swing sm oothly into the
opening between the teeth and s tr ik e r wedge block
(fig . 38).
NOTE:
The lock ro to r c o v e r assem bly must
c le a r the s trik e r plate as the lock enters the
s trik er.

H orizon tal slots are provid ed in the s trik e r plate to
position the s trik e r assem bly la te ra lly so that the
door outer su rface is flush with the p illa r su rface at
the door re a r edge within 1/16" (fig . 39). Torqu e to
25 ft. lbs.
NOTE:
The s tr ik e r inner edge must be p a ra l­
le l to the s trik e r mounting depression on the
p illa r.

rem ove the door to lo w e r hinge retaining bolts
and rem ove.
