2. I f the voltage drop does not exceed 3.5 vo lts and the
solen oid does not pull in, m easure the voltage a v a il
able at the SW ITCH term in al o f the solenoid.
3. If the solenoid does not fe e l w arm , it should pull in
whenever the voltage a vailab le at the SWITCH t e r
minal is 7.7 volts o r m o re. When the solenoid fe e ls
w arm , it w ill requ ire a somewhat higher voltage to
pull in.
STARTING M O TO R A N D SOLENOID CHECK

1. If the solenoid does not pull in, m easure the voltage
between the switch (S) term in a l o f the solenoid and
ground with the starting sw itch closed.

CAUTION:
If the solenoid fe e ls w arm , allow to

If the voltage is le s s than 7.7 vo lts, check fo r ex
cessive resistan ce in the solenoid control circu it. If
the voltage exceeds 7.7 volts, rem ove the starting
m otor and check (1) solenoid current draw, (2) s ta rt
ing m otor pinion clearan ce, and (3) freed o m o f shift
