rem ove the cover, weight springs, weights and slide
cam assem bly fro m the mainshaft.

1. Rem ove the rotor.
2. Rem ove both weight springs and advance weights.
3. Rem ove r o ll pin retaining driven gea r to the d is trib ­
utor shaft, slide the gea r and spacers from the shaft.
On heavy duty m odels rem ove shock mounting unit.
NOTE:
When servicin g go vern or type distribu ­
to rs
(fig.
12i),
rem ove
spinner valve assem bly at this tim e. Be sure to
note the revolutions needed to rem ove the nut
from the spinner valve.
4. B efo re sliding the distribu tor shaft from the housing,
check fo r and rem ove any bu rrs on the shaft. Th is
w ill prevent damage to the seals and bushing s till
positioned in the housing.
5. Slide the distribu tor mainshaft and cam -w eight base
assem bly from the housing.
6. R em ove
vacuum
a d v a n c e
screw s, rem ove the vacuum advance assem bly.
7o Rem ove
the spring retain er,
plate assem bly from the distributor housing. Rem ove
the contact point and condenser from the breaker
plate.
Rem ove the felt w asher and p lastic seal lo ­
cated beneath the b reak er plate.
NOTE:
G overnor
type
b rea k er plate. The contact point assem bly and
condenser a re attached d irectly to the distribu ­
tor housing.
8. On
distribu tor
with
seals as follow s:
a. With punch shaped as shown in Figu re 13i reach
up through the bottom o f housing and in sert edge
o f punch between upper and lo w er seals and push
upper seal out.
b. Insert suitable punch into vacuum hole as shown
in Figu re 14i and loosen lo w er seal by denting one
side slightly.

Cleaning and Inspection
1. Wash a ll parts in cleaning except cap, ro to r, con­
denser, break er plate assem bly and vacuum control
unit. D egreasin g compounds may damage insulation
o f these parts or saturate the lubricating fe lt in the
case o f the b reak er plate assem bly.
2. Inspect the b rea k er plate assem bly fo r damage or
w ear and replace if n ecessary.
3. Inspect the shaft fo r w ear and check its fit in the
bushings
in the d istribu tor body.
bushings a re worn, the parts should be replaced.
4. Mount the shaft in
" Y "
alignm ent with a dial gauge. The run-out should not
exceed .002" .
5. Inspect the advance w eights fo r w ear o r bu rrs and
fr e e fit on th eir pivot pins.
6. Inspect the cam fo r w ea r or roughness. Then check
the
co ver
band and
m echanism
retaining
rem ove the breaker
d istribu tors
have
no
govern or rem ove main shaft
has
been loosened, use the
15i to push out
If the shaft or
blocks and check the shaft
