DOUBLE CONTACT REGULATOR
W hile m ost regu lar adjustments a re made on the veh i­
cle as outlined under "M aintenance and A d ju stm en ts",
the regu lator may be rem oved fo r field re la y point and
a ir gap adjustment. H ow ever, voltage regulating contacts
should n ever be cleaned as they are
m a teria l that may be d estroyed by cleaning with any
a b ra siv e m aterial.

Removal and Installation
T o rem ove the regulator assem bly, disconnect the bat­
te ry ground cable and the w irin g harness connector at the
regu lator, then rem ove the sc rew s securing the regu lator
to the veh icle.
E le c tr ic a l settings must be checked and adjusted a fter
making m echanical adjustments. B efore installing regu ­
la tor c o v e r, make sure the rubber gasket is in place on
the regu lator base.
M echanical Adjustments
NOTE:
Only an approxim ate voltage regulator
a ir gap setting should be made by the " f e e l e r
ga u ge" method.
Field Relay Adjustment
1. Point Opening:
The point opening is checked as i l ­
lustrated in Figure 21c. If adjustment is necessary,
ca refu lly bend the arm ature stop.
2. A ir Gap:
Check the a ir gap with the points just
touching (fig. 22c). The a ir gap norm ally need not be
adjusted.

exactly according to specification s.
n ecessary, bend the flat contact spring.
