tighten 80 lb. ft. CP10,
NOTE:
T h is ste e rin g arm to stee rin g knuckle
and backing plate fasten er is an im portant at­
taching p a rt in that it could a ffe c t the p e r fo r ­
mance o f v ita l components and system s, and/or
could re s u lt in m a jor re p a ir expense. It must be
rep laced with one o f the sam e p art number or
with an equivalent part. Do not use a re p la c e ­
ment p a rt o f le s s e r quality o r substitute design.
T orque values must be used as s p ecified during
re a s s e m b ly to assu re p ro p er retention o f this
p art.
5. Torque brake anchor pin to 65 ft. lbs.
6. In stall brake shoes, brake shoe hold-down clip s and
return sprin gs.
7. In stall wheel hub, brake drum, wheel and tire a ssem ­
b ly o v e r spindle.
8. In sert outer wheel b earin g race and r o lle r assem bly,
w asher and nut.

A djust fron t wheel b earin g as shown under M ain­
tenance and Adjustm ents in this section. Install new
c o tter pin, dust cap and hub cap.

rem o ved and in stalled as fo llo w s:
Removal
1. R aise v e h icle on hoist and rem ove fron t springs as
outlined under S p rin g-R em oval.
2. Support engine and rem ove fron t engine mount cen ter
bolt.
3. Separate main brake fe e d e r line fro m cro ssm em b er
tee.

Installation
1. Jack c ro s s m e m b e r into p osition under fra m e
in sta ll fra m e side r a il lo w e r flange mounting bolts.
105 lb. ft. C P20-30.

2. Install bolts secu rin g cro ssm em b er hanger to fra m e
and torque nuts 70 lb. ft. on 10 S eries, 95 lb. ft. on
20-30 S eries.
3. Position engine on fron t mount and in stall mounting
bolt and torque 45 lb. ft.
4. Install springs as outlined under Spring-In stallation .
5. Connect
fron t
brake
brakes as d escrib ed in Section 5.(
6. Check and A djust fron t end alignm ent as outlined
under
" M a i n t e n a n c e
this section.
7. L o w e r veh icle on hoist.
Shock Absorber
Shock a b sorb ers a re bolt retained at both the upper and
the lo w e r attaching points.

sp a cer axle bracket o r at the low er con trol arm . Upper
attachment is to the fra m e side ra il by a through bolt a r ­
rangem ent on to a sp ecia l fra m e mounted bracket. R e fe r

Spring (K 1 0 and 2 0 Series)
Removal
1. R aise veh ic le on hoist and place stand jacks under
fra m e
side r a ils .
Support axle so that tension and
com pression a re r e lie v e d in spring.
2. Rem ove sp rin g -to -a x le " U " bolts.
3. R em ove sprin g fron t and re a r eye bolts and withdraw
spring fro m ve h ic le .
Inspection
Inspect bushings
fo r
le a v e s fo r breaks and inspect spring clip s fo r tightness.
Repairs
Bushing R e p la c e m e n t
1. In sert T o o l J-21058-15 with J-22620-2 through eye of
bushing. C enter T o o l J-21058-6 with J-21058-7 o v e r
threaded
end
and
s c re w
tightening nut J-21058-8 withdraw bushing fro m eye
(fig . 30).
2. P la ce T o o l J-21058-15 with J-22620-1 through bush­
ing and eye o f spring. Center T o o l J-21058-6 and
J-21058-7 and s c re w T o o l J-21058-8 on threaded end
o f T o o l J-21058-15.

NOTE:
Outer sh ell o f bushing must be flush
with spring eye to ensure p rop er alignm ent of
spring with spring hanger.
