Spring
Removal
1. R aise v e h icle on hoist and place jack stands under
fram e, allow ing control arm s to hang fr e e .
2. R em ove wheel and tir e assem bly.
3. Disconnect shock ab sorb er at lo w e r end.
4. Rem ove s ta b ilize r bar bracket at lo w e r con trol arm
(P S eries only).
5. B olt T o o l J-22739 to a suitable jack as shown in
F igu re 16.
6. P la c e tool under c ro s s -s h a ft so that the c ro ss-sh a ft
seats in the gro o v e s o f the tool (fig . 17). A s a safety
precaution in stall a chain through the spring and
lo w e r con trol arm .
7. R aise the jack to rem ove tension on the lo w er control
arm cro s s -s h a ft and
securing the c ro s s -s h a ft to the cro ssm em b er.
8. L o w e r con trol arm by slow ly re lea sin g the jack until
spring can be rem oved.
9. R em ove chain. Rem ove spring.
Installation
NOTE: A ll spring attachments, including center

bolts, a re im portant attaching parts in that they
could a ffect the perform an ce of vita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor r e ­
p a ir expense. They must be replaced with parts
o f the sam e p art numbers o r with equivalent
parts if replacem ent becom e n ecessary. Do not
use replacem ent parts o f le s s e r quality o r sub­
stitute design. Torque values must be used as
s p ecified during rea ssem b ly to assure p rop er
retention o f these parts.
1. P ro p e rly position spring on the control arm , in stall
chain and lift con trol arm .
2. Position con trol arm

and install bolts and attaching nuts, torque nut
to specifications.
3. Install shock a bsorber to low er con trol arm and in ­
sta ll s ta b iliz e r bar if so equipped.
