Removal K-Models (See Fig. 3)
1. R aise veh icle on hoist and rem ove o il pan drain plug
to drain oil.
NOTE:
If d esired, the o il may be drained after
transm ission rem oval.
Remove transfer case shift lever and rod.

4. Disconnect manual control le v e r rod and detent cable
fro m transm ission.
5. a. Disconnect front and re a r axle prop shafts at
tra n sfer case.
b. R em ove transm ission to adapter case attaching
bolts and place suitable support under tra n s fer
case.

liftin g device and attach to transm ission.
6. R em ove tra n sfer case to fra m e bracket attaching
bolts and rem ove tra n sfer case.
7. R em ove exhaust system c ro s s o v e r pipe on veh icles
with V -8 engine.
8. Rem ove the tran sm ission support re a r crossm em ber.
9. R em ove
con verter
under
con verter rslationship fo r assem bly), then rem ove
flyw h eel to con verter attaching bolts.
10. Support engine at the o il pan r a il with a jack o r other
suitable brace capable of supporting the engine weight
when the transm ission is rem oved.
11. L ow er re a r of the transm ission slightly so that the
upper transm ission housing-to-engine attaching bolts
can be reached using a u n iversal socket with a long
extension. R em ove upper bolts.

12. R em ove rem ain der of transm ission housing-to-engine
attaching bolts.
13. Rem ove tran sm ission by m oving it sligh tly to the
re a r and downward, then rem ove from beneath v e
h icle and tra n sfe r to work bench,

CAUTION:
Keep fron t of transm ission upward

Installation
1. Mount tran sm ission on transm ission liftin g equipment
installed on jack or other liftin g device.
2. Rem ove con verter holding tool.

3. R aise tran sm ission into place at re a r of engine and
install transm ission case to engine upper mounting
bolts, then in stall rem ain der of the mounting bolts.
Torque bolts to 25-30 ft. lbs.
4. R em ove support fro m beneath engine, then ra ise re a r
of transm ission to fin a l position.
5. If scribed during rem oval, align scrib e m arks on fly
w heel and co n verter co v er. Install con verter to fly
w heel attaching bolts.
6. In stall flyw h eel c o ve r.
7. P la c e tra n sfer case and adapter assem bly at re a r of
transm ission on suitable lift equipment and in stall
tra n s fer case to fra m e bracket attaching b o l t s .
Torqu e to 110 to 150 ft. lbs.
