POWER STEERING PUMP
Removal
1. D isconnect hoses at pump.

2. In stall two caps at pump fittin gs to prevent drainage

Loosen bracket-to-pum p mounting nuts.

Installation
1. In sta ll pump pulley.
C A UTIO N:
Da not ham m er on pump shaft. Use
pulley nut to pull pu lley onto shaft.
2. P o s itio n pump assem bly on veh icle and in stall at­
taching parts lo osely .
3. Connect and tighten hose fitting.

B leed pump by turning pulley back­
ward (cou n ter-clock w ise as view ed from fron t) until
a ir bubbles cease to appear.
5. In stall pump b elt o v e r pulley.

POWER STEERING GEAR (Figs. 25 and 2 6)
Removal
1.
M ark steerin g shaft to stub shaft relationship and
disconnect the steerin g shaft fro m the lo w e r coupling.
2. R em ove hoses from g e a r assem bly.
3. R em ove pitman arm bolt, nut, washer and pitman
arm .
4. R em ove mounting b olts and steerin g gear.
Installation
1. In stall pow er steerin g g ea r on veh icle by re v e rs in g
rem o va l procedure.
NOTE:
A ll steerin g gea r to fra m e and steerin g
gea r to fle x ib le coupling fa sten ers are im portant
attaching p arts in that they could a ffect the p e r ­
form an ce of vita l components and system s, and/
o r could resu lt in m a jor re p a ir expense.

Do not use a replacem ent part

POWER CYLINDER
Removal
1. Disconnect the two hydraulic lin es connected to the
pow er cylin der and drain fluid into a container.

of cylin der.
b. On each end of p ow er cylin der rem ove the cotter
pin locking the adjusting screw in position and
back out adjusting screw fa r enough to pull cylin ­
der o ff b all stud.

Installation
1. In stall the pow er cylin der on the veh icle by re v e rs in g
rem ova l procedu res.
NOTE:
When in stallin g pow er cylin d ers in c o r­
porating an adjusting sc re w at the b all stud at­
tachment, tighten screw , with ball stud in place
until it bottom s, then back off to nearest hole and
secu re with cotter pin.
2. Reconnect the two hydraulic lin es, f i l l the system
with fluid and bleed out a ir using the procedu re out­
lined under "M aintenance and Adjustm ents."
