and out o f inside the hub, wipe d ry.

roughness, check axle housing o il d e fle c to r and brake
drum o il d e fle c to r fo r evidence o f d a m a g e--rep la ce
p arts w here requ ired .
5. Exam ine brake drum fo r e x c e s s iv e scorin g and other
dam age.

Drum R e p la c e m e n t."
Bearing Cup
Replacem ent
R eplace inner cup (all a x le s ) and outer bearing cup fo r
17,000 lb. axle as follow s:
1. Cut a suitable length o f 1/2 inch steel bar stock fo r
p re s s -o u t tool as shown in F igu re 47.
2. P la c e appropriate p re s s -o u t tool behind bearing cup,
index tool in provid ed notches, and p re s s out cup
with an a rb or p re s s .
NOTE:

1. Using a punch o f suitable length, tap bearin g outer
race away fro m b earin g retaining rin g (fig . 49). Then
rem ove retaining ring from hub--using p lie r s fo r r e ­
m oval o f ring on 5200 and 7200 lb. axle (fig . 49),
using T o o l J-22380 fo r rem oval o f rin g on 15,000 lb.
axle.
