adjusting le v e r cam into the actuating le v e r link and
assem ble with cap screw .
Check the brake shoes fo r being cen tered by m easu r­

ing the distance fro m the lining surface to the edge
o f the flange plate at the points shown in F igu re 48.
To cen ter the shoes, tap the upper o r lo w e r end of
the shoes with a p lastic m a llet until the distances at
each end becom e equal.

10. Locate the adjusting le v e r .020" to .039" above the
outside d iam eter o f the adjusting sc re w thread by
loosening the cap s c rew and turning the adjusting
cam.
NOTE:
To determ ine
adjusting s c rew 2 fu ll turns out fro m the fu lly
retra cted
position.

the actuating le v e r . Turn the adjusting cam until
the actuating le v e r and threaded area on the
adjusting sc re w just touch the gauge (fig s . 49
and 50).
11. Secure the adjusting cam cap sc re w and re tra c t the
adjusting screw .
12. Install brake drums and w heels and rem o ve veh icle
fro m jack stands.
13. Adjust the brakes by making s e v e ra l fo rw a rd and
r e v e r s e stops until a sa tisfa cto ry brake pedal height
resu lts.
