A th erm al type c ircu it b rea k er installed on the front of
the dash panel p ro vid es p rotection in case o f a short c i r ­
cuit in the e le c tric shift system during veh icle operation.
Should a short circ u it occur the b rea k er w ill in term it­
tently d e -e n e rg ize the c irc u it until the trouble has been
c o rre c te d .
T h re e w ire s in the shift main harness (fig . 61) are
connected to the control switch. The red w ire connects
the battery (thru the ignition switch and circu it b rea k er)
to the control switch. The white w ire connects the con­
t r o l switch (thru the autom atic switch) to one fie ld o f the
a xle shift unit m otor. The black lead connects the con­
tr o l switch (thru the autom atic switch) to the other field

O peration
The operation o f the units in each speed range is e x ­
plained in the follow in g paragraphs.
High Speed Range
When the control switch operating arm is m oved to the
up (HI) position, current is supplied to one fie ld o f the
m otor in the axle shift unit. T h is current turns the a r ­
m ature and the d rive screw in a clockw ise d irection and
m oves the nut toward the bottom of the screw (fig. 64).
