b. Turn the tool to the opposite side and fit o v e r the
brake shoes by turning the star wheel until the
gauge just slid es o v e r the linings.
c. Rotate the gauge around the brake shoe lining
surface to assure p ro p e r clearan ce.
A lternate M ethod of Adjustm ent
a. Using the brake drum as an adjustment fixtu re,
turn the sta r wheel until the drum slides o v e r the
brake shoes with a sligh t drag.
b. Turn the star wheel 1-1/4 turns to re tra c t the
shoes. This w ill allow su fficien t lining to drum
clearan ce so fin al adjustment may be made as
d escrib ed in Step 4.
3. In stall the drum and wheel and rem ove the veh icle
fro m the jack stands or hoist.
NOTE 1: I f lanced area in brake drum was
knocked out, be sure a ll m etal has been rem oved

in drum to preven t contamination o f the brakes.
NOTE 2: Make certain when installin g drums
that drums a re in stalled in the same position as
when rem oved with the drum locating tang in
line with the locating hole in the wheel hub.
4. Make final adjustment by d rivin g and stopping v e ­
h icle until s a tisfa cto ry brake pedal height is obtained
as d escrib ed under " S elf Adjusting F e a tu re s" e a r li­
e r in this section.
