6. A p ro p erly adjusted linkage w ill prevent the s e le c to r
le v e r fro m
m oving beyond both the neutral detent,
and the d riv e detent unless the le v e r is lifte d to pass
o v e r the m echanical stop in the steerin g column.
7. In the event that an adjustment is required, p lace the
s e le c to r le v e r in d rive (D) position as determ ined by
the tran sm ission detent. See Steps 2 and 3.
8. Loosen
the adjustment sw ive l at the mast jacket
le v e r,
and rotate the tran sm ission le v e r so that it
contacts
the
d rive
9. Tighten the s w iv e l and recheck the adjustment. See
Steps 2 and 6.
10. Readjust indicator needle if n ecessa ry to a g ree with
the
tran sm ission detent positions.
11. Readjust neutral safety switch i f n ecessa ry to p ro ­
vide
the c o rr e c t relationship to the transm ission
detent positions. See Section 12.
TRANSM ISSIO N REPLACEM ENT-
(A ll Except K M odels)
Removal
1. R aise truck on hoist and rem ove o il pan drain plug to
drain oil.
NOTE:
If d esired , the o il may be drained after
tran sm ission rem oval.
2. D isconnect the vacuum modulator line and the speed­
o m eter d rive cable fittin g at the transm ission . T ie
lin es out of the way.
3. Disconnect manual con trol le v e r rod and detent cable
fro m transm ission.
4. D isconnect prop shaft fr o m transm ission.
5. In stall suitable tran sm ission lift equipment to jack or
other
liftin g
d evice
6. D isconnect engine r e a r mount on transm ission exten­
sion, then rem ove the transm ission support c r o s s ­
m em ber.
7. Rem ove
co n verter
underpan,
c o n verter relationship fo r assem bly, then rem ove the
fly w h e e l-to -c o n v e rte r attaching bolts.
8. Support
engine at the o il pan r a il with a jack or
other suitable b race capable of supporting the engine
weight when the tran sm ission is rem oved.
9.
L o w e r the re a r of the transm ission slig h tly so that
the upper tran sm ission housing-to-engine attaching
bolts can be reached using a u n iversa l socket and a
long extension. R em ove upper bolts.

10. Rem ove
rem ain d er
engine attaching bolts.
11. R em ove the tran sm ission by m oving it sligh tly to the
r e a r and downward, then rem ove fro m beneath the
ve h icle and tra n sfer to a w ork bench.

Refer to Figure 4
1. Rem ove a ir cleaner.
2. Loosen detent cable screw .
3. With choke off and a c c e le ra to r linkage p ro p e rly ad­
justed (See Section
6) position carbu retor le v e r in
wide open throttle position.
4. P u ll detent cable rea rw a rd until wide open throttle
stop in transm ission is felt.
NOTE:
Cable
must
position
to
reach
wide open throttle stop in
transm ission.
5. Tighten detent cable screw
p rop er operation.
CA U TIO N :
Keep front of transm ission upward
to p revent the co n verter fro m fa llin g out. Install
suitable
co n verter holding tool a fter rem o va l
fro m the engine.
Installation
1. Mount transm ission on tran sm ission liftin g equip­
ment in stalled on jack o r other liftin g device,
2. Rem ove con verter holding tool.
