Brake Shoes
In a ll cases o f brake com plaints denoting actual brake
lining o r shoe fa ilu re, the brake drums should be r e ­
m oved and b efo re disassem bly o f the shoes fro m the
flange plate, a ll linings should be inspected fo r w ear,
im p rop er
alignm ent
causing uneven w ear, o r o il and
g rea se on the linings. If any o f these conditions exist, it
w ill be n ecessary to replace o r relin e the shoes. If, in
checking
the
linings, it is noticed that they have the
appearance o f being glazed, this is a norm al w earing
condition with the type lining used. It may be n ecessary
to use a w ire brush o r an a brasive on the lining to d e ­
stroy this gla zed surface.
When brake lining replacem ent is n ecessa ry, replace
the shoes and linings on both fron t wheels o r both re a r
w heels.
On low m ileage veh icle s where a g re a se sea l
leak o r m inor chatter has developed, replacem ent o f both
shoes on that wheel is p e rm is s ib le . In no case should a
sin gle shoe o r lining be replaced.
