19. If n ecessary, adjust clutch or transm ission control
linkage to achieve p rop er transm ission operation.
REAR OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT
The lip -typ e oil seal used at rea r o f Muncie, Fu ller,
C lark, New P r o c e s s o r S p icer transm ission can be r e ­
placed without rem ovin g transm ission fro m veh icle. R e ­
place re a r oil seal as follow s:
Removal
1. Drain lubricant from transm ission.
2. Disconnect
p ro p e lle r
described in "P R O P E L L E R
o f this manual.
3. Rem ove
parking brake
tran sm ission as d escrib ed in "P A R K IN G
(Section 5).
4. Disconnect speedom eter cable and rem ove speedom ­
ete r driven gea r from mainshaft re a r bearing cap.
5. Using flange or yoke holding tool, rem ove the output
yoke or
companion flange nut. P u ll output yoke or
companion flange o ff mainshaft.
6. Rem ove mainshaft re a r bearing cap and gasket. D is­
card gasket.
7. Using a suitable p u ller, rem ove oil seal from rea r
bearin g cap. D iscard o il seal.
Installation
1. Install new o il seal in mainshaft re a r bearing cap
using a suitable seal in sta ller as shown in Figu re
with lip o f seal pointing toward transm ission case.

Removal and Installation (Fig. 9d and lO d)
1. Disconnect the two shift rods at the gearsh ift le v e r
by rem oving the cotter pin and c le v is pin.
2. Rem ove four nuts and lockwashers to rem ove g e a r­
shift from
cab, then rem ove two gaskets and stop
plate.
3. Install in r e v e r s e o rd er.

NOTE:
Seal In staller J-22834 and Adapter J-
22834-1
(as needed) is used with the Muncie
4 -speed.
Sealing cement should be used at the
outer diam eter o f the oil seal to prevent leakage.
Wipe o ff excess cement.
2. Clean all gasket su rfaces, then install re a r bearing
cap and oil seal assem bly with a new gasket to tran s­
m ission case. Tighten cap screw s fir m ly .
NOTE:
O il return passage in re a r bearing cap
must line up with passage in transm ission case.
3. Install output yoke or companion flange on main­
shaft. Using flange or yoke holding tool, install r e ­
taining nut.
R e fe r to "T o r q u e
proper torque.
4. Install speedom eter driven gear, then connect speed­
om eter cable.
5. Install parking brake (when used) to transm ission as
d escribed in "P A R K IN G B R A K E " (Section 5). Adjust
brake i f n ecessary.
6. Connect p ro p e lle r shaft to transm ission as described
in " P R O P E L L E R S H A F T S " (Section 4).
7. R e fill transm ission with lubricant as described in
LU B R IC A TIO N (Section 0) of this manual.

1. Apply downward pressure to cap, then rotate slightly
to fre e it from pins in tow er.
2. Rem ove knob and nut; then rem ove cap, spring cup,
and spring.
