(2) If voltage does not in crease significantly,
gen erator is d e fective. Check the fie ld wind
ing, diode trio , r e c t ifie r bridge and stator
as c o v e re d in Section 6Y, Chassis Overhaul
Manual and re p a ir as required.
9. Turn o ff e le c tr ic a l loads, shut o ff engine and d is

GENERATOR OUTPUT TEST
To check the gen erator in a test stand, p roceed as
follo w s:
1. Make connections as shown in F igu re
leave
the
carbon
p ile
charged E n e rg ize r o r battery, and a 10 ohm r e s is to r
rated at six watts o r m ore between the gen erator
No. 1 term in al and the E n ergizer.
2. Slowly
in crease the gen erator speed and observe
the voltage.
3. If the voltage is uncontrolled with speed and in
cre a s e s above 16 v olts, check fo r a grounded brush
lead
clip
as

heading o f " O V E R
NOTE:
The E n erg izer must be fu lly charged
when making this check.
4. Connect the carbon p ile as shown.
5. Operate the generator at m oderate speed as required
and
adjust the carbon p ile as requ ired to obtain
maximum current output.
6. If output is within ten percent of rated output as
stamped
on
gen erator
7. If output is not within ten percent o f rated output,
ground gen erator fie ld (fig . 4D).
8. O perate
gen erator
at
carbon p ile as requ ired to obtain maximum output.
9. If output is within ten percent of rated output, r e
place regu lator as covered in "R e g u la to r R ep lace
m ent" section.
10. If output is not within ten percen t of rated output,
check the fie ld winding, diode trio , r e c tifie r bridge
and stator as previou sly covered .
