and in stall o il seal in the lo w er g roove o f the stem ,
making sure the seal is fla t and not twisted.
NOTE:
A light coat of o il on the sea l w ill help
prevent twisting.
7. Install the v a lv e locks and re le a s e the com p ressor
tool,
making sure the locks seat p ro p e rly in the
upper gro o ve of the v a lv e stem .
NOTE:
G rease may be used to hold the locks
in place w hile
relea s in g the com p resso r tool.
8. Install spark plug, using a new gasket on 13/16"
plugs, and torque to sp ecification s.
9. Install and adjust va lv e m echanism as outlined.
Cylinder Head Assemblies
Removal
1. Rem ove m anifold assem bly as outlined.
2. Rem ove va lv e m echanism as outlined.

3. Drain cooling system (block).
4. Rem ove fu el and vacuum line fro m
at w ater outlet then disconnect w ire s fro m tem pera­
ture sending units.
5. Disconnect upper rad iator hose at w ater outlet hous­
ing and battery ground strap at cylin d er head.
6. R em ove coil.
7. R em ove cylin d er head bolts, cylin d er head and gas­
ket.

Installation
CAUTIO N:
The
gasket
head and the block must be clean of any fo reign
m atter and fr e e
o f nicks o r heavy scratches.
C ylin der bolt threads in the block and threads on
the cylin d er head bolt must be cleaned. (D irt
w ill affect bolt torque). Do Not use gasket s e a le r
on com position ste e l asbestos gaskets.
1. P la c e the gasket in position o v e r the dowel pins with
the bead up.
2. C arefu lly guide cylin d er head into p lace o v e r dowel
pins and gasket.
3. Coat
threads
of cylin d er head bolts with sealin g
compound and in sta ll fin g e r tight.
4. Tighten cylin der head bolts a little at a tim e in the
sequence shown on the torque sequence chart until
the s p ecified torque is reached.
5. Install coil.
6. Connect upper rad iator hose and engine ground strap.
7. Connect tem peratu re sending unit w ire s and in stall
fu el and vacuum lin es in clip at w ater outlet.
8. F ill cooling system .
9. Install m anifold assem bly as outlined.
10. Install and adjust va lve mechanism as outlined.
11. In stall and torque ro ck e r arm co ver.
O il Pan
Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable then rem ove sta rter.
2. On CS 10-20-30.
a. R em ove engine fron t mount bolts (fra m e bracket-
to-m ount).
b. Using a suitable jack with a fla t piece of wood
(to preven t damaging o il pan), ra is e engine enough
to in sert 2" x 4" wood blocks between the engine
mounts and fra m e brackets.
3. Drain engine oil.
4. Rem ove o il pan and discard gaskets and seals.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean a ll gasket sealing surfaces-
2. Install
new re a r seal in re a r main bearing cap.
3. Install
new
front
seal
p ressin g tips into holes provided in c o ver.
4. Install new side gaskets on cylin d er block (fig. 4 L).
NOTE :
DO NOT USE S E A LE R .
5. Install o il pan and torque bolts to specification s.
6. Com plete
installation as follow s on CS 10-20-30:
a. Using a suitable jack with a flat piece o f wood
(to
preven t
damaging
