2. Clean ro to r and inspect fo r damage o r d eterioration .
R eplace ro to r w here n ecessa ry.
3. R eplace b rittle , o il soaked o r damaged spark plug
w ire s . Install a ll w ire s to p ro p er spark plug. P ro p e r
positioning o f spark plug w ire s in supports is im ­
portant to preven t c r o s s -fir in g .
4. Tighten a ll ignition system connections.
5. R eplace o r re p a ir any w ir e s that a re frayed, loose
o r damaged.
Magnetic Pulse (Breakerless) Distributor

system . R e fe r to Section 6Y fo r an analysis o f problem s
and/or re p a ir proced u res encountered on the T r a n s is ­
to riz e d (M agnetic P u lse) ignition system .
Standard (Breaker Point) Distributor (Figs. 4 or 5)
1. Check the distributor cen trifu gal advance mechanism
by turning the d istrib u tor ro to r in a clockw ise d ir e c ­
tion as fa r as p ossib le, then re lea sin g the ro to r to
see i f the springs return it to th eir retarded position.
I f the ro to r does not return rea d ily , the distribu tor
must be disassem bled and the cause o f the trouble
c o rrected .
2. Check to see that the vacuum control operates fr e e ly
by turning the m ovable b re a k e r' plate cou n terclock­
w ise to see if the spring returns to its retarded
position. Any stiffn ess in the operation o f the vacu­
