in sert the lo w e r end o f the m ast jacket through the
fir e w a ll opening, guiding the steerin g coupling onto
the steerin g g e a r worm shaft.
3. P o sitio n and attach the lo w e r clamp mounting bracket
to the fire w a ll.
Locate the mast jacket protru sions
against the fir e w a ll brack et while at the sam e tim e,
aligning protrusion in brake and clutch pedal support
with index slot in m ast jacket, as shown in F igu re 16
and in stall clamp.
NOTE:
The fir e w a ll bracket must not co v er
the protrusions on the m ast jacket.
4. In stall the m ast jacket to dash clamp bolts.
5. A fte r the assem bly is com pleted, and a ll bolts are
p ro p e rly torqued, the dim ension between the steerin g
shaft lo w e r tube and interm ediate coupling must be
maintained at 6.38 to 6.78 inches.

The steerin g coupling to steerin g gea r
fasten er is an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the p erform an ce of v ita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor r e ­
p a ir expense.
It must be replaced with one of
the sam e part number o r with an equivalent part
if replacem ent becom es n ecessary.

tute design.
Torque values must be used as
s p ecified during rea ssem b ly to assure prop er
retention of this part.
6. On
3 - speed
and
automatic
connect transm ission shift linkage.
7. In stall seal at fire w a ll.
8. Connect d irection al signal w irin g harness.
9. Install steerin g wheel as outlined under "S teerin g
W h eel—In stallation ."
10. Connect battery ground cable.
