Removal
1. R em ove wheel assem b ly and axle shaft as specified
in applicable " A x le Shaft R e m o v a l" procedure o f this
section.
2. Disengage tang o f nut lock from slot o r flat o f lock-
nut, then rem o ve locknut fro m housing tube, using
appropriate tool (fig . 46).
a. J-2222--5200 and 7200 lb. axles.
b. J -0 8 7 0 --ll,0 0 0 and 13,500 lb. axles.
c. J-22343-15,000 lb. axle.

d. J-7341--17,000 lb. axle.
3. Disengage tank o f nut lock from slot o f flat o f ad­
justing nut and rem ove nut lock from housing tube.
4. Use appropriate tool as sp ecified in Step 2 to rem ove
adjusting nut fro m housing tube.
NOTE: On 5200 through 15,000 lb. axles, r e ­
m ove thrust washer fro m housing tube.
5. P u ll hub and drum assem bly straight o ff axle hous­
ing, using care on the
a xles to avoid dropping outer bearing inner race and
r o lle r assem bly.
NOTE: The hub o il seal should be replaced
whenever the hub is
6. Rem ove o il seal.
