4. Thoroughly clean old gasket m a teria l fro m wheel hub
and axle shaft flange, and install a new gasket o ve r
hub studs and against hub.
5. Install axle shaft so that splines a re aligned with
d iffe re n tia l side gea r and flange holes index o v e r hub
studs.
6. Install tapered dowel o v e r each hub stud. Install and
tighten stud nuts to sp ecification s.

this indicates e x c e s s iv e w ear at studs, tapered dow­
