FRAME ALIGNMENT
H orizon tal fram e
checking can be made with tra m ­
m ing gauges applied d ire c tly to the fram e or by tra n s­
fe r r in g selected points o f m easurem ent from the fram e
to the flo o r by means o f a plum bob and using the flo o r
layout fo r m easuring.
Figu re 3 may be used as a gen­
e r a l guide in the selection o f checking points; how ever,
selection o f these points is a rb itra ry depending on a c ­
c e s s ib ility and convenience.

fra m e , a corresponding point on the opposite side o f the
fra m e
must be used fo r v e rtic a l checks, opposite and
altern ate sides fo r horizontal checks.

Vehicle Preparation
Points to rem em ber when preparing veh icle fo r fram e
checking:
1. P la ce v eh icle on a le v e l surface.
2. Inspect damaged area s fo r obvious fram e m isa lign ­
ment to elim inate unnecessary m easuring.
3. Support
veh icle
p a ra lle l to the ground.
Tramming Sequence
1. Dim ensions to bolts and/or holes in fra m e extend to
dead center o f the hole or bolt.
2. Dim ensions must be within 3/16".
3. If
a
tram
bar is used, fo r horizontal alignment
'•'X" - check fro m opposite and alternate referen ce
points A A , BB and CC, as illu strated by the lin es in
Figu re 3. E r r o r w ill resu lt if a tram bar is not le v e l
and centered at the refe re n c e points.
4. Obtain v e rtic a l dim ensions and com pare the d iffe r ­
ences between these dimensions with the dim ensions
as shown in chart.
